Wilma vanBerkel
Wilma van Berkel was born in 1965 in The Hague, Netherlands. She began playing the classical guitar at the age of ten.
She obtained her Teacher's Degree with Hans van Goch and her Performer's Degree with Jorge Oraison, both at the Rotterdam Conservatory.
She was awared two consecutive Foreign Exchange Scholarships from the government of the formere Czechoslovakia and a gran from the Dutch Ministry of Culture to study in the Czech Republic with Stepan Rak and the Prague Academy of Fine Arts. She has participated in master classes with many outstanding teachers and performers including David Russell, Stepan Rak and Leo Brouwer.
In London, Ontario, WIlma runs a private studio and teaches Guitar at the University of Western Ontario.
She and Sybille Marquardt (flute) have just released their first CD. From the New Village features South American Tangos by Piazzolla and Pujol as well as a fabulous piece by Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu for alto flute and guitar called Towards the Sea (commissinoed by Greenpeace for their Save the Whales Campaign)
Bob Kubica
Born in 1964 in Ottawa, Robert (Bob) graduated from the University of Western Ontario where he was a student of Alan Torok and the recipient of the University Gold Medal for Performance in 1989. Following graduation, he continued his studies in the Czech Republic with Stepan Rak of the Prague Academy of Fine Arts.
He obtained his Master's degree in guitar performance from the University of Toronto, where he was a student of Norbert Kraft.
He has participated in master classes with many outstanding teachers and performers such as David Russel, Vladimir Mikulka, and Alice Artzt.
Robert currently teaches music at Laurier Secondary School in London and on the faculty at the Universtiy of Western Ontario.
