Our Story

For Nearly Fifty Years

Our campers have the time of their lives, making lifelong friends and learning in a challenging, supportive, family-like environment. Many of our campers now start their NMC life at age 9 or 10 and continue through the end of high school, at which point the get in line to be accepted on staff.

In the Beginning

Our co-founders, Camp Wahanowin Owner, Harold Nashman, and  high school music teacher, Bob Head, met at a conference where they shared their passion for camping, music, kids and education. The first season of what was then the Junior Division of Interprovincial Music Camp boasted five faculty members and a handful of campers.

The idea rapidly spread and campers arrived in greater numbers. There were very few options for kids aged 10-15 to enjoy both camping and music in those days. Little by little, new facilities were built, but we made use of every single building on site, including an old chicken coop that still stood beside the Stone House

NMC is Born

In the early 80's, the connection between the two camps ended and National Music Camp of Canada emerged. Over the next few years we created both the Junior and Senior Divisions. Since then we've added Music Theatre, Jazz, Suzuki Strings, Guitar, and Junior Jazz!
