Ryan Baker graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Trumpet Performance. Having played with many excellent professional and semi-professional groups. Ryan keeps a busy schedule as both a full time music teacher and performer. He has played with such groups as The National Academy Orchestra, as well as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra with Bobby McFerrin and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, both as a youth performer. He recently played the Canadian performances for the Broadway touring show “Hello Dolly” with Sally Struthers.
In 1998, he performed with the United States National Youth Orchestra at Carnegie Hall with conductor Lukas Foss. He can be heard on various recordings and on the radio with some of these groups. He was also a concerto competition winner at the University of Toronto and was featured trumpet soloist with the University of Brock Wind Ensemble.
Ryan is the Head of Music at Sherwood Secondary in Hamilton, has been a Secondary Music Teacher Facilitator with the Ontario Educational Leadership Centre (OELC), teaches trumpet lessons privately and has been the trumpet faculty with the Canadian Music Conservatory in Toronto. He is an active member of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves where in May 2016 he will become the Director of Music of the Band of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, as well as tour England where the band will perform for Her Majesty the Queen and HRH Prince Philip.
Most importantly, he can credit his career and lifelong love of music to the National Music Camp, where he was a camper, staff, senior staff, and now faculty for over 15 years.
