Suzuki Strings

The Suzuki Strings program is designed to benefit a Suzuki-trained student by broadening his/her musical experience.  Students participate in daily Suzuki classes and play in the camper orchestra.  Reading classes and ensemble opportunities are also included.

Suzuki Strings instrument options include:

  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Cello
  • String Bass

Guitar

Guitar is one of the most popular instruments to learn.  From beginner to advance, this program develops the students playing and reading skills through group lessons, ensemble playing, music reading classes and individual support.  Students bring their own guitar, or one may be rented through the camp.

Musical Theatre

This triple-threat, exciting program focuses on singing, dancing and acting technique.  Led by professional faculty in each discipline.  All levels of skill are welcome and will benefit from this exceptional experience.  Original scripts combined with popular Broadway show tunes, plus creative choreography make up the show of the week.  Family and friends are invited to enjoy the final performance and witness the incredible accomplishments of their children on concert day.  This is the only program where we encourage campers to “break a leg”.

Beginning Band

This is a unique opportunity for campers to experience the magic of music, to play an instrument and learn to read music for the very first time.  This is particularly important for campers who are about to start a music program in their school.  Campers will go from never playing a note, to performing in a concert for their family in just seven days.   As a courtesy to our Beginning Instrument campers, NMC will rent an instrument on your behalf for a nominal fee.

Beginning Instrument options include:

  • Flute
  • Oboe
  • Bassoon
  • Clarinet
  • Saxophone (Alto, Tenor)
  • Trumpet
  • French Horn
  • Trombone
  • Tuba
  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Cello
  • String Bass
  • Percussion
  • Acoustic/Classical Guitar*

(*Guitar program for beginner to advanced)

Junior Jazz

One of the most interesting and unique genres of music is Jazz.  A fantastic introduction is the Junior Jazz program at NMC.  The program consists of campers playing in a big band and attend group lessons, as well as learn the basics of improvisation.  Renowned players and teachers form the Jazz faculty and inspire campers to achieve tremendous results.  Campers must have at least one year of experience (school or private lessons) on their instrument.  Keyboard players must have the equivalent of RCM grade 6.   Campers in grade 7 and 8 are eligible to attend the Intermediate Jazz program at Senior Division.

Jazz rentals:  The Jazz mandatory rental program (JMRP) is for all Jazz keyboard, drums, guitar and bass campers.  Campers pay a single rental fee for this service.  Drum sets (less drumsticks), guitar, bass, keyboard amplifier and soundboards are supplied.

Junior Jazz instrument options include:

  • Flute
  • Saxophone (Alto, Tenor, Baritone)
  • Trumpet
  • Trombone
  • Guitar
  • Bass
  • Drums

Choir

*Program not available at this time*

The choir program at NMC offers campers the opportunity to share the joy of singing. Through various warm-up techniques, songs and vocal games, campers will learn the fundamentals of vocal techniques. Repertoire will be drawn from a variety of genres that will allow campers to solo, part sing and create harmonies.
