The Job
It's the Best Two Weeks of My Summer
We hear this from our Music Staff all the time. Our staff members give up jobs, pay, free time and a lot of sleep to work at camp. Our first and most important guideline for staff is “we are here for the campers.”
Music Staff LOVE working with kids.
- They live in the cabin with the kids as cabin counsellors, along with Recreation Staff from Wahanowin’s Core Staff.
- Like a family, staff eat meals with them, work with them in rehearsals and have been seen hanging out with them during their free time.
Music staff assist the faculty by working with the Conductors and Specialists.
- They help in large group rehearsals, sectionals and workshops and in group lessons.
- They often offer one-on-one lessons or may work with a chamber ensemble.
- n short, they do whatever is needed to help the campers achieve their potential.
Staff are assigned to three hours of instructional time, which can include helping out during one of our elective periods.
- However... the opportunities to grow and learn and help are so great here, many staff work beyond the required hours.
Many of our staff are in Music Education at universities and colleges across the country.
Several are Performance majors .
Some of our staff at Junior Camp are finishing High School and are leaders in their arts programmes there.
The honorarium is $100 per week.
