Matthew Ferguson Memorial Staff Scholarship Fund (MFMSSF)

We've Helped More Than 200 Kids Come to Camp since 1995.

This programme is unique to National Music Camp. In 1995 we established the Staff Scholarship Fund (SSF) to assist lower income campers get to camp. Each year we provide up to 100% of the camp fee to talented campers whose families don’t have funds for things like camp. Several of our recipients have been able to go on to study music and return to NMC as music staff or become music teachers. We are excited about and proud of our achievements in this area. The Fund is administered entirely by staff volunteers, coordinated by Sharon Little, our Staff Coordinator.

Monies from the fund are raised through several at-camp activities (friendship bracelets, cabin auctions, mix 'n' mingle meals, for example), through staff and faculty donations and by donations received at our Tea and Symphony concerts.

In 2009 we renamed the Fund in honour of Matthew Ferguson, a long time staff member and life-time NMC camper, who passed away in March 2009. He embodied the spirit of the Fund, was on the committee twice, and was at the front of the line when it came to participating in a Scholarship Fund activity.

As a staff member, your honorarium is $100 per week. There is no obligation to donate to the fund, however, we do ask. Most staff donate at least 10% back to the fund. Many donate up to 50% and several put their entire honorarium into the fund. High School students can use camp as volunteer hours when they donate their honorarium to the Fund.
