Since 1995 we have raised more than $100,000 and helped more than 200 campers!
This program is unique among music camps. In 1995 we established the Staff Scholarship Fund to assist lower income campers get to camp. Each year we provide from 25% to 100% of the camp fee to talented, economically challenged campers. Several of our recipients have been able to go on to study music and return to NMC as music staff. We are excited about and proud of our achievements in this area. The Fund is administered entirely by staff volunteers, coordinated by Sharon Little, the Staff Coordinator.
Monies from the fund are raised through at-camp activities (friendship bracelets, cabin auctions, pocket change challenge, mix 'n' mingle meals, for example), through staff and faculty donations and by donations received at our Tea and Symphony concerts.
The Fund is administered entirely by a volunteer staff committee, with Sharon Little, the Staff Coordinator and office administration assisting.
In 2009 we renamed the Fund in honour of Matthew Ferguson, a long time staff member and life-time NMC camper, who passed away in March 2009. He embodied the spirit of the Fund, was on the committee twice, and was at the front of the line when it came to participating in a Scholarship Fund activity.
