Tom Lees obtained a Diploma in Musical Theatre from London College of Music before going on to study at Bath University. In 2011, he completed an MA in Musical Theatre at Goldsmiths College. Tom worked as Co-artistic Director of the London Theatre Workshop for the 2014-15 season. During this time, he was MD for several productions at the theatre, including ‘Ordinary Days’ - for which he was nominated for a Broadway World award for Best Musical Direction – and Sondheim revue ‘Just Another Love Story.’ He was also MD for his own award-winning original show ‘Apartment 40C,’ which played to full houses and rave reviews at Delfont Mackintosh’s St James Theatre.
For the last five years, Tom has spent his summers as Head of Theatre at Camp Wahanowin in Ontario, Canada, where he directs and MDs shows, working with hundreds of young people each year. In the winter months, his work with young people in the UK has expanded to include working as musical director for “West End Calling” – a youth theatre initiative developed to introduce aspiring young people to opportunities in London musical theatre. He also works extensively with “Britain’s Got Talent” winners ‘Collabro’ for whom he has provided numerous arrangements and also worked as MD on shows and recordings.
Tom is a popular musical composer in London, and particularly enjoys writing shows for or featuring children. His work with young people is very important to him, and he hopes to eventually make this the focus of his career in theatre.
