Principal clarinetist with L’Orchestre Symphonique de Trois-Rivières (OSTR) since 1987, and Les Grands Ballet Canadiens since 1996. Zaven Zakarian is a graduate of McGill University.
Zaven has appeared as a soloist with l’OSTR, and l’Orchestre Metropolitain de Montréal. He has freelanced with the l’Orchestre Symphonique du Québec, as well as the Kithener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra and the National Arts Center Orchestra. Since 1999 he has been the principal substitute clarinetist with the l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. He has appeared in many recordings for CBC, Radio Canada, ATMA and other productions. In 2002, OSTR won “Prix d’Opus”, a prize given for a live concert featuring Zaven Zakarian in a performance of Copland’s Clarinet Concerto.
He teaches at Vanier College since 1985 and at Concordia University since 2011.
